The counselors at Lost Mountain are excited to offer our KICKS program again this year. “KICKS” stands for “Kids in Contact with Kids”. For this program students at LMMS will be carefully selected to serve as peer mentors to fellow students who may struggle socially or who have special needs. KICKS mentors will also help in our special needs classes. The mentors will take part in a brief orientation with our special needs teachers to learn about the students in the class and how to work with them. KICKS mentors will work in the special needs class one day every 10 days or so during the school day for a 20 to 30 minute session. KICKS members must maintain A’s and B’s in their classes. Our KICKs students also serve as excellent role models to their peers.
KICKS mentors must have parent permission to participate in the program. For new KICKS members, there is an application process where prospective KICKS mentors must obtain teacher recommendations as well as complete an application. This information is included in this packet.
We hope you will consider being a part of the KICKS program. It has proven to be a wonderful opportunity for our mentors as well as our mentees. If you have any questions about the program or the application process, please contact your counselor.
